The story kept me on the edge of my seat at times, but unfortunately my personal experience was a little jolted. Along the way he takes on Saracens, knights and even demons on his quest to stop the unholy circle. The story revolves around Paul, a templar knight, who must stop an unholy alliance from performing a dark ritual to open the gates of hell and unleash evil upon the world. The campaign mode is of a decent length and managed to keep my interest throughout my playthrough. It’s a real shame, because KOTT has a lot more going for it than just being a barebones hack n slash title. Things have gone very well for the studio since their early days, but KOTT was deemed a failure by critics, who felt that the hack n slash genre was becoming dated, and that games that still wanted to exist within the genre needed to incorporate ideas from other genres. Since KOTT, Starbreeze went on to create Payday 2, 2012’s Syndicate reboot and the upcoming Overkill’s The Walking Dead. The game came out for the PS2, GameCube, PC and original Xbox. Starbreeze had previously developed the amazing hidden gem, Enclave, for the original Xbox and PC and were slowly starting to build a name for themselves, though they didn’t become a true household name until a year later, when they developed The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay.

Knights of the Temple: Infernal Crusade was developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by TDK Interactive in 2004 exclusively in Europe. I was on a medieval binge at the time, and had finished playing through Diablo III, Arcania : Gothic IV and Dungeon Siege III prior to making the decision to play through Infernal Crusade. I’d really enjoyed my time spent with The Elder Scrolls IV and Dante’s Inferno and was hoping that I would have a similar experience with KOTT.

One of the first games I purchased that really appealed to me was Knights of the Temple: Infernal Crusade. I think we all go through phases like this in our collecting, and nearly all of us regret it afterwards. When I finally began seriously collecting around five years ago, I started buying the cheapest games I could find, focusing a lot on quantity over quality, but it wasn’t long until I realised I wasn’t going to play Pop Idol or MTV Music Generator 2000 and moved on to focus my collecting on games that actually appealed to me. I’d had the console since its launch in 2004, but due to my age I hadn’t been able to play or pay for many games. When I first got back into gaming after a small hiatus, the only console I had to my name was my PS2 Slim.
